Work Permits  Procedures in Oman

Employers must get employment visas for any foreign employees over the age of 21 who wish to enter Oman. This is the most common visa used by firms to sponsor a foreign national for employment in Oman. The Directorate General of Labor Affairs must approve the employment.

The employer must have labor clearance from the Ministry of Manpower in order to obtain an employment visa. To be qualified for an employment visa, the employee must meet approval conditions, which include Omanization quotas for the minimum number of Omani citizens engaged in the organization.

The employment visa is only valid for two years from the date of entrance. Even after admission, the employee is not permitted to work until all essential applications, including the residency permit, have been processed.

Employees with job visas are not permitted to leave Oman for more than six months unless they are family members. Family members may apply for a family joining visa, which allows the employee’s family to remain in Oman but not work throughout the employment period.
