Work visa categories in Mexico
All immigration in Mexico is regulated by the National Institute of Immigration, which also issues work permits. Anyone from outside the country who want to work there must apply for a visa. For instance, persons working for Mexican businesses require a resident visa that includes a work authorization. A visitor’s visa with the ability to work is an alternative for people who have been employed by a foreign company in Mexico for less than six months.
Mexico offers three distinct visas:
- Tourist visa: Visitors who have a tourist visa are permitted to stay in Mexico for up to 180 days for any purpose other than financially rewarding endeavors like employment.
- Foreign nationals who wish to stay in Mexico for a period longer than 180 days must apply for a temporary residence visa. People with a temporary resident visa can stay and work in Mexico for up to four years in addition to the Mexico work permit.
- Permanent resident visa: A permanent resident visa is required for foreign nationals who wish to live and work in Mexico permanently. The permanent resident visa is also available to people who have long-term residence in Mexico or deep family links to the nation.
Application Method for work visa in Mexico
A temporary resident visa with work authorization is required for foreign citizens who wish to work in Mexico for a period longer than six months. You, as the employer, must submit an application to the Mexican Institute of Immigration under this arrangement. If accepted, the employee will need to submit an application for the necessary visa at the Mexican consulate at the applicant’s place of residence. The employee must go to the consulate within 15 days after hearing from you or the employer that the visa application was approved in order to obtain the required visa.
Employees receive a temporary residence visa through the entire process, which also grants them authorization to work for 180 days. A temporary resident card, good for up to four years, can be obtained by registering with the local immigration office within 30 days of the employee’s arrival in Mexico. After the card expires, the holder must either leave Mexico or apply for a visa for permanent residence.
Conditions for Obtaining Work Visas for Mexico
The majority of employees who accept a position with your Mexican site will require a permanent resident visa, or Visa de Residence Permanente. Since they must have family ties to the nation, a significant monthly salary, or four years of regular status as a temporary resident, not all employees will be able to meet the requirements. For employees who have been invited to work in Mexico or who have real estate or close family links there, it may be a good idea for employers to submit an application for a temporary residence permit.
While there are minor differences between the two options in terms of criteria, the following documents are typically needed:
- application for a visa
- current passport
- replica of a migration document
- a photo ID
- A public or private institution has extended an invitation
- Evidence of one’s financial situation, level of education, place of job, and connection to a Mexican citizen
Language specifications
Although Spanish is widely spoken in Mexico, having a strong command of the language will improve your chances of landing a graduation employment. The Spanish spoken in Latin America and in Castile have some minor distinctions.
